John Fingert, MD, PhD, professor of ophthalmology and Michael Wall, MD, professor of ophthalmology and neurology, were both honored as Silver Level Impact Scholars for their remarkable contributions in 2024!

Carver College of Medicine Impact Scholars are selected based on the Hirsch index, also known as the H-index, which represents the number of research papers a faculty member has published, and the papers’ impact as determined by how many times they have been cited by other scientists and scholars in subsequent research articles.
For example, a researcher with an H-index of 50 has published at least 50 articles that each have been cited at least 50 times. An H-index increases as multiple papers are cited multiple times. The H-index calculations for the Carver College of Medicine Impact Scholars are based on research abstract and citation data from Scopus. Carver College of Medicine Impact Scholars are faculty who have achieved H-index scores of 100 or higher (“gold” level) and 50 or higher (“silver” level).

Their dedication to advancing science and education was celebrated alongside 15 other faculty members at the Carver College of Medicine's fifth annual Celebration of Excellence in Research, Scholarship, Teaching, and Service. Congratulations to all the distinguished faculty members recognized!
Denise Jamieson, MD, MPH, UI vice president for medical affairs and the Tyrone D. Artz Dean of the Carver College of Medicine, hosted the celebration, which honors new inductees to the Carver College of Medicine Wall of Scholarship; the college’s newest Impact Scholars; and recipients of the college’s annual faculty awards. The event took place in the Prem Sahai Auditorium in the Medical Education and Research Facility (MERF), followed by a reception in the Jean and Reneé Robillard Atrium.
