Thank you for your interest in our Fellowship Program. Applications for the 2026 Fellowship cycle will be processed through SF Match.

Application Process

Only Central Application Service (CAS) applications will be accepted.

Please refer to the SFMatch website to register for the match and read about the process for applying to Ophthalmology Fellowship training. Once registered, please view our program listing on the SFMatch directory website for all required documents.

  • The CAS requires a personal statement and 3 letters of recommendation.

Deadlines

  • Application deadline is September 1.
  • Fellowships generally run from July 1 to June 30
  • Orientation for new fellows begins July 1, so you must be available for that start date and be licensed in Iowa by June 30.

Criteria for Applicants

Additional letters of recommendation are welcome, but not required. Orientation for new fellows begins July 1. Fellows must be licensed in Iowa by June 30 and available to begin on July 1.

For applicants who are not US citizens, individuals must already hold valid H‑1B status. This includes those currently working in the United States on an existing H‑1B visa, such as professionals completing residency at another U.S. institution. H‑1B visa holders finishing training elsewhere may transfer their sponsorship to UIHC once their current contract ends. At this time, we are unable to initiate new H‑1B petitions for individuals outside the United States, and we are not able to consider other visa categories.
